Hi Vis Test Report Requirements: What Your Supplier Must Show You

Four-panel production sequence of a hi-vis hoodie from cut panels through sewing and reflective tape to final inspection

Hi vis test report requirements come down to one question: can a laboratory’s numbers be traced to the exact garment you are buying? A report that names no material, no standard edition and no accredited lab is a brochure, not evidence.

Hi Vis Test Report Requirements: The Six Fields That Matter

Start with who tested it and against what. ANSI/ISEA 107 requires retroreflective and combined-performance materials to be tested by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, so the report should carry the lab name, its accreditation, and the standard with its edition — 107-2015 and 107-2020 are different documents. Then the product identity: model, colourway, and the material reference or roll number if a mill is named.

Next come method and result. The report should state the retroreflection geometry and any conditioning applied before measurement, then give a results table with values against limits rather than a single “pass”. A date and a named signatory finish it, because a page you cannot trace to a person is a page you cannot question.

Why “We Are ANSI Certified” Is Not the Answer

ANSI/ISEA 107 is a voluntary standard, and no body issues an “ANSI certificate” for a garment — the manufacturer declares conformity and holds the test evidence behind that declaration. The phrase therefore tells you a report probably exists somewhere, not that anyone has read it. Ask for the page.

What to Verify on the Page Itself

Field What it should say What to watch for
Laboratory Named lab with an ISO/IEC 17025 scope covering retroreflective testing A lab name with no accreditation scope
Standard Full designation including edition, e.g. ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 Undated “ANSI 107”
Product identity Model, colour, material reference Generic “hi-vis fabric”
Results Measured values against each limit, per test The word “pass” with no numbers

Our GV06 vest and GVU08 vest are both declared ANSI Class 2, which is exactly the kind of claim that should arrive with a page attached — the hi vis test report requirements above are what turn that claim into evidence.

What Changes in 2026

ISEA opened public comment on the sixth revision of 107 earlier this year, with the review period running to 11 May 2026. The draft adds updated sizing requirements, revised colourfastness and dimensional-stability protocols, and optional overall coefficient of luminous intensity testing to ASTM E1501. It remains a draft, so reports today should still cite the published edition.

Buyer tip: for hi vis test report requirements, request the results page rather than the cover page, and check that the edition on it matches the one your customer’s specification names — a current-looking report against a superseded edition is the most common mismatch we see.
